Green Day’s long-teased movie gets a new title, trailer, and release date

We've been hearing about Green Day's road-trip comedy for what feels like forever, and now it's finally taking shape. Previously known as New Year's Rev, the film has officially been retitled Nimrods, a name that will immediately ring a bell for anyone familiar with Green Day's catalog.

Along with the new title comes a fresh trailer, a release date, and the movie's first official poster.

Written and directed by Lee Kirk, Nimrods follows a young punk band that hits the road after mistakenly believing they've landed a gig opening for Green Day. Black Phone 2 star Mason Thames leads the cast, joined by Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust as his bandmates, while Mckenna Grace plays a key role in the story.

The supporting cast is stacked with familiar comedy faces, including Fred Armisen, Angela Kinsey, Bobby Lee, Sean Gunn, and Jenna Fischer. As for Green Day themselves, it looks like Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool will be doing more than just popping in for quick cameos. The new trailer suggests the band will have substantial on-screen roles, and they'll be taking a crack at comedy along the way.

Check out the trailer below:

Nimrods hits theaters 8/14.
