British indie singer-songwriter Matt Maltese has returned with his new single, "Anytime, Anyplace, Anyhow." The song was written, composed, and produced by the artist himself. Listen to the new track below:
"Anytime, Anyplace, Anyhow" is the first single since the 2023 release of standalone track "The Earth is a Very Small Dot" to be new, original work. On March 8, 2024, Maltese had released a collection of 13 piano-led covers of popular songs on the Songs That Aren't Mine record. He then recorded and uploaded a cover of Chet Baker's "My Funny Valentine" on December 6 for the upcoming April 11 release of Chet Baker Re:Imagined, a tribute album celebrating the 70th anniversary of Chet Baker Sings.
The new music also comes immediately after an important milestone in the artist's career. Maltese recently made his stage composition debut for the Royal Shakespeare Company, composing a new, original score for the Christmas season production of Twelfth Night. The show ran from December 5, 2024 to January 18, 2025, and the singer-songwriter's music — including an exclusive "misery-laden Christmas song" unique to this production — was played live by cast members nightly, according to Theatre Weekly.
The Driving Just to Drive singer began teasing new music back in December 2024, hinting at potential new releases in his Spotify: Wrapped message for his top fans. On January 17, he posted a link to his newsletter teasing an announcement. Temporarily taking down his official website and scrubbing his Instagram page clean, Maltese confirmed the release of "Anytime, Anyplace, Anyhow" on Monday, January 20.
As of right now, there's no indication if "Anytime, Anyplace, Anyhow" is the beginning of a potential album cycle, or if it's just another standalone single. Either way, it's a pleasant and romantic new addition to Matt Maltese's growing catalog of bittersweet, lyrical indie pop songs.
