British noise rockers Maruja have announced today that their highly-anticipated debut record, Pain to Power, is complete and will be released on September 12 via Music for Nations. The band also shared their leading single, "Look Down On Us," as well as tour dates for performances in the United States, Europe, and the UK.
Directed and produced by Light in the Tower, the music video for "Look Down On Us" flashes with projections, shadowy figures of the band, and an extended instrumental break featuring a mass of contemporary dancers. The song is their longest yet, lasting almost ten minutes. Watch/listen to "Look Down On Us" below:
On streaming services, "Look Down On Us" is accompanied by a second track called "Break the Tension."
"Pain To Power invites you to listen to what is within and beyond us, to connect with the duality of life, to question, to feel, and to demand more for us all," the band commented on their social media. The new album deals with the relationship between "oppressor" and "oppressed," looking at the social dynamics that give us the capacity to "harm and be harmed" by others, depending on our places in the social hierarchy.
Maruja continued,
"Pain To Power calls on folklore, myth, shared histories, and beautiful differencs. Like hands in earth, like sharing clandestine material, this album is a sonic sanctuary delivering the message of love through the innately human sounds of instruments in solidarity with each other."
We are delighted to announce that our debut album ‘Pain to Power’ will be released on 12th September
