Lucy Dacus brings out Zohran Mamdani, covers Sufjan Stevens at All Things Go NYC

During Lucy Dacus’s headlining set at All Things Go NYC, the singer brought out the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City: Zohran Mamdan. Later, she covered Sufjan Stevens’s “Chicago”. Watch clips of the show below.

Dacus welcomed the Queens assemblyman to the stage with a roar from the crowd at Forest Hills Stadium. He spoke about his beliefs and goals for the city, including protecting trans and queer New Yorkers and making the city affordable for all.

“This is what our city should feel like,” Mamdani said, noting the crowd’s jubilance. “It should be a city where trans New Yorkers are cherished, a city where our queer neighbors are celebrated, and a city where each and every New Yorker can be the fullest version of themselves. And it has to be a city that all of us can afford.”

“Whether you’re an artist, or a Dreamer, or someone who works the night shift,” he continued, poking fun at Dacus’s fan favorite track, “that city is within reach, if we’re willing to fight for it.” He implored festival goers to register to vote (the deadline is October 25th) before Election Day on November 4th. After leaving the stage Dacus joked that Mamdani should sing her song “Bullseye”.

Since announcing his campaign for New York City mayor, Mamdani has appeared at a number of New York City concerts including at shows for Wu-Tang Clan, MJ Lenderman, and Sunflower Bean.

Also, as a nod to the festival’s name, Dacus covered Sufjan Stevens’s “Chicago” as the penultimate track of the night. Dacus also officiated the weddings of a handful of couples on stage during “Best Guess”. (She announced in July she is ordained in the States and would administer the weddings of any fans interested.)
