Now that Record Store Day is over and done with for another year, Lucy Dacus has put her new song "Planting Tomatoes" out across all streaming platforms. For the past week the track has only been available on an exclusive RSD 7", backed with a voice memo version of the song that, for now, remains offline.
The track comes with a shopping list-inspired lyric video, shot by Dacus herself in Japan. Take a look below:
In a new interview with i-D magazine, Dacus says that the track was written in Berlin while on tour there last year, adding:
"I wrote 'Planting Tomatoes' in the green room based on some of the ideas I’d had for a while, about being older now than someone was when they passed, and thinking: 'What would they be like at my age?' I was reflecting on people I’ve lost and wondering about how easy it is for me to get caught up in thinking about death throughout the day. I just have to lock back into life by staying interested in my little ideas."
Asked if the track is the start of the follow-up to 2025's Forever is a Feeling, she says it's probably just a standalone thing, adding that if it was the start of something new, she wouldn't even know yet herself.
In other Dacus news, she recently announced on Instagram that none other than Cat Power will be opening for her show with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra in LA on September 13. Cat Power will be performing her 2006 album The Greatest in its entirety with as part of her 20th anniversary tour behind the record.
