Lorde releases new song “Man of the Year”, shares music video

Lorde has released “Man of the Year”, the second single from her upcoming fourth studio album Virgin. Watch the song’s Grant Singer-directed music video below.

Virgin’s second single was once again produced and written with Jim-E Stack. Additionally, the track features Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange) on cello. Earlier this month, Lorde described “Man of the Year” as the song she is most proud of on Virgin.

Grant Singer has collaborated with Lorde in the past on visuals for Melodrama songs “Green Light” and “Perfect Places”. The “Man of the Year” video features Lorde binding her chest with duct tape before breaking into a dance sequence in a room filled with earth. The scene is reminiscent of the 1977 sculpture exhibit “New York Earth Room” by Walter De Maria, which features 280,000 lbs of dirt laid across a 3,600 ft² office space.

“Man of the Year” was preceded by lead single “What Was That”, which she debuted at Washington Square Park after her first attempt was thwarted by a NYPD shutdown. Earlier this week, Lorde unveiled the tracklist for the album, including titles like “Clearblue” and “GRWM”.

Later this year, Lorde will embark on her Ultrasound World Tour in support of the album. She’s bringing along a slew of opening acts for support, including Blood Orange, Oklou, The Japanese House, Jim-E Stack, Fabiana Palladino, Chanel Beads, Empress Of, and Nilüfer Yanya. Tickets are available now.

Virgin will release on June 27th via Republic. Jim E-Stack co-wrote and produced the record alongside Lorde, with contributions made by Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange), Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, Buddy Ross, and Dan Nigro.
