After a tumultuous few years of facing allegations of fat-shaming (dismissed last year) and sexual harassment (settled confidentially in February, it seems) from past members of her entourage, Lizzo seems ready to put the whole thing behind her and get back to the business of being "100% that bitch." Literally. Her new single "BITCH" is out this Friday, followed by an album of the same name coming June 5 via Nice Life / Atlantic.
“Reclaiming the word ‘bitch’ is power," she says in a press release that calls back to her 2019 hit "Truth Hurts," adding:
"It’s taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence, and unapologetic self-love. So many incredible women in music have used the word for positivity like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliott. It was only fitting to name my album ‘Bitch’ because it has become my favourite word when using it on my own terms and because I am 100 per cent that bitch!”
The song is said to interpolate parts of Meredith Brooks' smash hit of the same name, which has sold over 2 million copies worldwide since its release in March 1997.
