Lizzo releases new "Still Bad" single

Lizzo "quit” last year in response to facing backlash both online and people in her life. Recently, however, she has come back to the scene promoting her new single “Still Bad,” a track that follows a period filled with legal issues, including allegations from a former wardrobe assistant claiming she created a hostile work environment, a claim which Lizzo has denied.

“Still Bad” finds Lizzo navigating the aftermath of a breakup, all set to a disco-pop vibe similar to her hit “About Damn Time." In the chorus, she declares, “I don’t need him, I need a drink,” which sums up the theme of resilience she's going for. Later in the track, she decalres: “I’m still surviving, and I’m still bad, baby / So bitch, I can’t complain."

As Lizzo prepares to release her upcoming album, Love in Real Life, she has begun showcasing new material in performances across Los Angeles, New York, and Minneapolis. During her recent show at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, she took a moment to address the struggles she's gone through, saying she had been in a “dark depression.” She shared, “I was so heartbroken by the world, and so deeply hurt that I didn’t want to live anymore, and I was so deeply afraid of people that I didn’t want to be seen.”

She said in an interview with Apple Music:

“Recording ‘Still Bad’ was interesting because it started off as a country song and it was like, ‘I don’t need him, I need a drink.' You know what I mean? I think this song is so interesting because like it was just, the sentiment was more important than the sound. The lyrics had to come from that, ‘I lost my dog, I need some whiskey,’ kind of like deep sadness or country kind of rhetoric.”
