Lil Wayne reflects on Trump photo, Super Bowl snub, and 2024 election

In 2020, Lil Wayne made headlines when he posed for a photo with then-President Donald Trump. At the time, Wayne was facing up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. Before leaving office, Trump pardoned Wayne for the charges, a move that the rapper expressed gratitude for in a statement: “I want to thank President Trump for recognizing that I have so much more to give to my family, my art, and my community.”

Now, the photo and Wayne's statement are back in the spotlight following a new interview with Rolling Stone, where he was asked if he regrets posing with Trump. His response:

“Fuck no, I don’t care about no backlash for nothin’ I do, you know me, man. My mama woulda been mad if I ain’t smile. That might have been the only backlash I would have worried about.”

In the same interview, Wayne also shut down any future hopes of performing at the Super Bowl halftime show in the future, claiming they “fucked up” for not having him play because New Orleans is his hometown and they choose Kendrick Lamar instead.

Finally, when asked about potentially endorsing Trump for the 2024 election, Wayne offered a candid reply:

“I would’ve told him, ‘You probably don’t want that,’ because I don’t know what’s going on. I can tell you who won the last game, but I can’t really … you know what I mean?”
