Experiment rock outfit Liars are back with a brand new album. The curiously-titled A Ban On Plastic Bag Bans is out March 5, 2027 via Mute.

The band has shared the also-curiously-titled first single, "Ice Pick, Kalamazoo" today. Listen here:

The song found its inception after frontman Angus Andrew relocated to Kalazmoo, MI with his family, and began smelling a foul odor from a nearby factory. He joined an effort to hold them accountable. All of this funnels into the record, which, as per a press release, is about "how injustice can become part of the background of everyday life, and how exhausting it can be to fight forces that seem too powerful to move."

The odd name of the record reportedly comes from a legitimate Michigan law.

Andrew says of the record that "It’s got more to do with the perception of things than modern pollution – how these things that can be a constant in your life become sort of ingrained and invisible," going on to admit "It wasn't just the environment that was polluted. It was also my mind."

Andrew has since moved to Australia, where some of the record was recorded, alongside avant-garde jazz drummer Laurence Pike and multi-instrumentalist Cameron Deyell.
