Laura Veirs sings alongside a French school choir for new live album

In May earlier this year, the American singer-songwriter Laura Veirs performed alongside a French school choir in Angoulême, playing a special arrangement of songs across her discography for an international audience. Today, she announced that the performance has been mixed and mastered for a live album.

Laura Veirs And The Choir Who Couldn’t Say (Live In Angoulême) is due for release on October 10 via her label, Raven Marching Band.

Veirs also shared the live version of her 2010 song, "I Can See Your Tracks", today, uploading an accompanying video of the performance featuring herself and the children in the choir. Watch/listen to it below:

The choir — 32 students enrolled in a school in Angoulême — is directed by Patrice Cleyrat. The students and Veirs worked together for several months, reimagining her folk rock and country songs for a choral arrangement and coming together for this one-night performance in their French town. Veirs accompanied the students with vocal and guitar parts; Cleyrat assisted with the piano.

"Hearing their brave and soulful renditions of my songs and performing with them was a career highlight," said Veirs via press release. "I’m so glad we were able to capture the magic of this performance and can share it with the world in the form of this new album."

Cleyrat added,

"I'm really proud of the choir and of this absolutely unique experience. I worked very hard all year to make it happen. I hope this experience will help them become great adults and to have faith in the future and in real relationships between differing countries. Music is my passion; I try to transmit it."

Veirs and Cleyrat co-produced the live album, and Etienne Jouanneau recorded it. After the performance, Paris-based artist Eduoard Bonard mixed the tracklist before sending it back to Veirs' home city of Portland, OR for Jon Neufeld to master it. Veirs designed the cover art.

The choir and Veirs plan to reconvene in early 2026 for another performance of this setlist. The specific date has yet to be announced.
