Lady Gaga has released a new single, "The Dead Dance", a song she wrote for season two of Netflix's Wednesday, in which she also stars.
Tim Burton — creator and director of The Addams Family spin-off series — directed the accompanying music video. Watch it below:
On the new single, Lady Gaga told Netflix's media site Tudum that "The Dead Dance" was inspired by a breakup, drawing particular attention to the way it affects one's ability to hope after heartbreak. "It’s got this really cool, funky beat underneath it," she said, adding:
"And that is when the song becomes not just about the relationship; it becomes about having fun with your friends when you’ve been through something tough and amazing. I can’t wait for people to listen to it."
Gaga's association with the Wednesday series, as well as her artistic collaboration with Burton, started from a place of loose association. In 2022, her Born This Way track "Bloody Mary" (from 2011) became a viral hit on TikTok after a fan of the show edited a sped-up version of her song into a clip of Jenna Ortega's Wednesday dancing in the show. Since then, the pop star has recreated the dance and spoke out in favor of the show, written "The Dead Dance", and now stars as the new character Rosaline Rotwood in part two of the show's second season.

On working with Gaga, Tim Burton said, "I’ve been a fan of her work for a long time," per Tudum. "She makes great music, and she’s a great actress, so for me it was very easy. She’s a real artist, and I’m grateful for what she contributed to the show."
