LA Olympics chairman counts on Kendrick Lamar to be part of the 2028 Olympics in some way

Casey Wasserman, chairman of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics organizing committee, told the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Thursday (March 20) how the city will move forward with the Olympic games after the damage caused by the wildfires. “Everyone loves a comeback story,” he told the IOC.

“The rebirth, the rebuild, maybe reimagining LA 2.0 — and the Olympics as a catalyst for all those things — we think is really part of our ethos,” Wasserman told The Associated Press.

He's counting on Kendrick Lamar to be part of the LA28 Summer Games" “Fortunately in my day job I represent Kendrick Lamar,” the sports agent said. “He is truly an LA icon so I think it would be a pretty fair bet that Kendrick will be involved in the Olympics in Los Angeles in some way.”

The Compton rapper experienced one of the most prolific times of his career last year: he won five Grammy Awards thanks to his Drake diss track "Not Like Us", headlined the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show (where he also performed the aforementioned song), and released his new album GNX to great fanfare.

The Olympic venues were not seriously damaged after the wildfires. “From purely an Olympics perspective we got very lucky. That’s not the most important thing,” Wasserman explains. “What’s important is helping people get back into their homes, get back settled, get back with their lives.”

Last year's LA28 Olympic Handover featured performances by several area artists from the likes of Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Next month, Lamar will kick off the Grand National Tour with SZA in Minneapolis, MN at the U.S. Bank Stadium. The jaunt will take them to Europe as well.

Recently, the Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper featured on Playboi Carti's new album MUSIC. His verse on the track "GOOD CREDIT" apparently takes a shot at Drake's lawsuit to UMG for allegedly artificially boosting Lamar's "Not Like Us" hit track.
