A Snow Patrol demo written with Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue in mind has now become a fully-fledged duet: "These Alarms," out digitally next Wednesday (July 1) and on 7" vinyl on August 21.

Originally recorded by Snow Patrol for their 2024 album, The Forest is the Path, but left off the tracklist because "something huge was missing," the band dreamed big and asked Kylie herself to lay down some vocals.

As frontman Gary Lightbody explains in a press release, "finally the song felt complete."

"From the minute she recorded her vocals we knew, to properly honour Kylie and the song, it needed to have a life on its own and not be buried somewhere on an album, but live in its own universe, because the song had its own very unique genesis, journey and destination. We could not be more delighted to be releasing a song with Kylie, the queen of pop herself, out into the world.”

“The story behind this song was irresistible," says Kylie, adding:

"Hearing there was a demo called 'Kylie' that had been living in the Snow Patrol archives was a complete surprise and, naturally, I was curious to hear it. Gary is such a brilliant songwriter, so to be invited into the band’s world is a total honour.”

In other Kylie news, her recent Netflix documentary series has been a huge critical success, maintaining a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes since its release last month, and she was recently spotted in Wales filming alongside Quentin Tarantino for director Jamie Adams’ upcoming Tangled Up In Blue. Named after a Bob Dylan song, the film reportedly also stars Jason Isaacs, Sofia Boutella, Wu-Tang Clan's RZA, and Allison Williams (aka Marnie from Girls).

As for Snow Patrol, the band are celebrating 20 years of their multi-million selling album Eyes Open with the July 24 release of an expanded edition featuring 24 bonus tracks, including B-sides, live recordings, and remixes, plus an accompanying tour.
