Kneecap share new single "FENIAN", album moved to May 1

Kneecap return today with their third single "FENIAN", the titular track off their upcoming record. They've also announced that they will be pushing back the album's April 24 release date to May 1, delaying the rollout on Heavenly Recordings by a week.

"FENIAN" comes with a trippy, Balaclava-centric music video filmed in West Belfast and directed by Thomas James. Watch/listen to the new track below:

Set to a raucous party track that includes everything from fist-pumping acid rave beats, to group chants, to a celebration of their identity, the titular song serves as an act of reclamation — a transformation of what once was an anti-Irish slur into a status of national pride. Kneecap, as brash and direct as ever, described the track as: "an anthem to embrace our Fenian past," as well as a way to "cure our colonial hangover by reconnecting the warriors of Irish folklore with the Fenian c*nts from the North of Ireland today."

"For me," says the music video's director, "this track is about a reclaiming of identity. Not only of the word, but for people too." He adds that the "trippy whirlwind" of the film "[embodies] the spirit of the boys and the song" and sees "the word Fenian through a new lens."

This new rave-influenced single closely follows the downbeat, sharper hip-hop track "Smugglers & Scholars", an education on Ireland's revolutionary history.

Kneecap will be celebrating the release of the album in record stores throughout the UK at the end of April. Later in the summer, they'll be hosting an eight-day hometown residency in Belfast, appearing at multiple festivals (including Primavera Sound and Reading & Leeds), and then headlining a proper Europe tour. Tickets are available now.
