Earlier today, TRNSMT, Scotland's largest summer music festival, removed Kneecap from the official lineup due to "concerns expressed by the Police," per the Irish rap trio's social media.
"To the thousands of people who bought tickets, flights and hotels to see us play, we are sorry...it is out of our hands," they wrote. "Glasgow has always been a huge city for us. Weβve played there many many times, with no issues - ever. Make of that what you will."
"Due to concerns expressed by the Police about safety at the event, Kneecap can no longer perform at TRNSMT." π

This decision comes a month after Scottish First Minister John Swimney called for TRNSMT to pull the controversial band from the festival. Referring to their infamous Coachella set, he argued Kneecap "crossed the line" after concluding their performance with a plea for the freedom of Palestine.

The news also comes a week after the Scottish Police gave an official statement regarding the July 11 performance to BBC. A spokesperson said that the police were not consulted about potential safety concerns before the festival booked talent. (TRNSMT booked Kneecap months ago; the British government's investigation that led to the "terrorism" charge against Mo Chara began last month.) The police spokesperson continued:
"Officers have highlighted the potential reaction of such a large audience to this band would require a significant policing operation in order to support the delivery of a safe event. We have also passed on information from the public around safety concerns to allow organisers to make an informed decision on the running of the festival."
The 2000trees Festival, a medium-sized festival in the UK occuring at the same time as TRNSMT, confirmed today that they would still be supporting Kneecap. "If their recent shows in London are anything to go by, this promises to be one of the most memorable headline sets we've ever had at 2000trees," they wrote in an X (formerly Twitter) thread. "Do not miss it - Glasto is obviously sold out & we're not far behind - so if you want to see the most talked about band in ages, you need to bag a 2000trees ticket before they all sell out!"
After loads of speculation & numerous requests from the press of late, we are happy to confirm that YES! @KNEECAPCEOL are still headlining the Thursday at 2000trees this July. pic.twitter.com/VOuQrvKMSi

The Glastonbury music festival has also not yet cancelled the Kneecap performance scheduled for June 26 despite pleas from government figures and other critics of the band.
Upon hearing the news that they'd no longer be performing at TRNSMT, Kneecap also booked a gig at the Glasgox O2 Academy on July 8. Presale tickets will be available at 10 am local time for fans in their Whatsapp channel, and general sale will happen on Saturday, May 31 at 10 am local time.
