Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker has recently launched a new electronic instruments company called Telepathic Instruments, which has raised some eyebrows in electronic music circles. The company's offerings have largely been shrouded in mystery, but a recent Instagram video has finally provided a sneak peek at what Telepathic Instruments has been working on.
The video showcases Parker playing what appears to be a compact synthesizer or MIDI controller with a vintage-inspired design. The instrument features a one-octave keyboard, two jog wheels, various knobs and buttons, and a small screen resembling an oscilloscope display.
Comments on the video praised the clean tones Parker is getting out of the instrument, which are distinct from the sounds heard in previous teasers.
Parker's foray into hardware aligns with his well-known passion for synthesizers and experimental sounds. Although he does not currently have a go-to synth in the studio, Parker has a rack of keyboards that he frequently utilizes. It looks like he'll have a few more of his own creation to add to the arsenal.
In a separate announcement made in May, Parker revealed that he sold his complete song catalog to Sony Music Publishing and at that time said:
"The idea of passing on ownership of my songs is one that I don’t think about very lightly, at all. I don’t think my songs could be in any safer hands than Sony’s, and I’m excited for the future and happy I can keep working with them on whatever the future brings.”
The comment section on the post by Telepathic Instruments is buzzing with many eager fans sharing their unbridled anticipation for the instrument as well as Parker's first album since 2020's The Slow Rush, with the top comment in the thread reading, " I want this album more than gta6."
