Following the release of Playboi Carti's long-anticipated Music, fans were quick to notice a certain Compton rapper showing up a few times. Kendrick Lamar makes surprise appearances on "MOJO JOJO" and "BACKD00R", but it's his verse on "GOOD CREDIT" that's been drawing the most discussion.
In a few lines, it seems that Kendrick is taking subtle shots at Drake's recent lawsuit filed against their label United Music Group, which claims that UMG conspired alongside Interscope, Spotify, and others to artificially boost smash hit "Not Like Us" on the charts.
"The numbers is nothing, the money is nothing, I really been him, I promise / Say Kenny been heavy out West and I carry the weight, n*gga, I’m Luka Dončić / Conspiracy theories is a given, but I must admit it, you got the wrong person"
Despite Drake's claims, Kendrick doesn't seem to care all that much about the chart-topping success and money that comes with having such a huge hit. It's all a big conspiracy theory to him, and Drake has the wrong person here.
The complaint, filed in January, claims that the song was pushed using payola and bots in order to harm Drake's reputation so that the label could renegotiate his contract according to their terms.
Kendrick also makes a reference to A$AP Rocky's recent gun case in a previous bar:
Eliantte go big, white gold link fall on the belly/The emerald cuff for hers and his, that bitch on point like A$AP Relli
In the last line, he states that a piece of jewelry is "on point" much like how Rocky associate A$AP Relli was quick to point the finger at him during the trial. Rocky ended up being found not guilty and is currently free.
