Julien Baker & TORRES announce debut collaborative album, 'Send a Prayer My Way'

Indie rockers Julien Baker & TORRES (aka Mackenzie Scott), have been teasing toward this for a while, but they have now officially announced their debut collaborative LP. Send a Prayer My Way is out April 18 via Matador. And after sharing their first song as a duo back in December, they have now shared "Sylvia", the first official single for the record.

Listen to the song and watch the video – with footage and photography from Lindsey Byrnes – below:

The story goes that the two artists played a show together all the way back in 2016, and then one told the other, "We should make a country album." And so here we are, nine years later, with their first dual effort.

Of the new song, TORRES had this to say:

"The morning I went to pick up my dog Sylvia from an upstate shelter, I was at home making my coffee and I turned on WFMU and Dolly Parton’s ‘Cracker Jack’ was on. I burst into tears—it felt like the universe was telling me she was going to be mine (Sylvia was only meant to be a foster). I remember thinking that I’d love to write a song like that, a song that people could feel in their chest within five seconds of turning on the radio, because anyone who has ever had the honor of sharing a home with a beloved pet knows that a pet is family—they’re the best friends you could ever have."

Baker's last solo album, Little Oblivions, came out back in 2021, but she is also one third of boygenius, alongside Lucy Dacus and Phoebe Bridgers. Their last record, The Record, came out in 2023, and went on to win three Grammys.

Meanwhile, TORRES's last record, What an enormous room, was released in early 2024.
