Concerning news emerged yesterday about the disappearance of folk singer-songwriter Linda Perhacs as several friends and longtime collaborators – including Julia Holter, DubLab co-founder Mark “Frosty” McNeill, and Perhacs’ former manager Laurel Stearns – published a statement appealing to the public for help.

The 82-year-old musician, whose 1970 album Parallelograms was rediscovered in the 2000s and widely celebrated as a lost classic, was last seen by friends at a residential care facility in California where she has reportedly been living since the late 2010s.

In a jointly shared statement, Stearns said that Perhacs, who lives with dementia, had been discharged from the facility eight months ago into the care of an unnamed legal guardian, and that no one has been able to reach her since then.

Friends are asking the public to come forward with any verified information they might have about Perhacs’ well-being, or a way in which she can be contacted. “The most important thing is that she’s safe and comfortable,” Stearns has told Entertainment Weekly.

Since then, friends and longtime collaborators have been unable to reach her and repeated attempts to contact her guardian have reportedly gone unanswered.

Inspired by the fact that her forgotten earlier work had found a new audience, Perhacs went back into the studio to make two further albums, 2014's The Soul of All Natural Things and 2017's I'm A Harmony, with Holter, Devendra Banhart, Nite Jewel, and Wilco's Nels Cline among her collaborators.
