Today, singer-songwriter and Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy announced his upcoming solo record Twilight Override, a three-disc album due for release September 26 via dBpm Records. This marks his first big solo project since 2020's Love Is The King, his fourth studio album.

In addition, the artist shared three songs, one featured on each disc: "One Tiny Flower", "Out In The Dark" (both of which have a video), and "Stray Cats In Spain." Listen to all tracks below:

Tweedy also released the album's official closer, "Enough", which he considers "a summation," according to a press release:

"It is the light that just comes to terms with – okay, itʼs never gonna be enough ... Youʼre never gonna completely fill yourself up with all this stuff you love. Youʼre endless, youʼre deep, youʼre insatiable ... if youʼre doing it right. Stop thinking so fucking much about things that you canʼt control."

According to Tweedy, all three discs can stand alone, but together they form a unified reflection on the past, present, and future. "Iʼm not trying to imply that I had this all mapped out as a story,” he explains. “The way that this ended up falling together and being arranged—it does tell a story that I think I wanted to tell." Much of the music comes from a period of heightened activity, as he claims the "darkness" of the world around him inspired him to seek creativity. He explains:

"Sort of an endless buffet these days — a bottomless basket of rock bottom. Which is, I guess, why Iʼve been making so much stuff lately. That sense of decline is hard to ignore, and it must be at least a part of the shroud Iʼm trying to unwrap. The twilight of an empire seems like a good enough jumping-off point when one is jumping into the abyss."

Twilight Override was recorded in Tweedy's Chicago studio, and Tom Schick is credited as co-producer. Many guests appear on the album, including James Elkington, Finom members Sima Cunningham and Macie Stewart, Liam Kazar, and Tweedy's two children.

To promote the upcoming record, Tweedy will embark on a solo tour this October, travelling to cities across North America, Europe, and The UK. Cunningham, Stewart, and Kazar will support throughout. Tickets go on sale this Friday, July 18 at 10 am local time. Tweedy will also perform some of his solo material at Wilco's Sky Blue Sky Festival this coming January.
