JAY-Z has officially been announced as the Super Bowl LXI Halftime show performer. The performance will take place on February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The four-time Emmy and 25-time Grammy Award-winning rapper made headlines late last week when Puck reported that JAY-Z, real name Shawn Carter, had allegedly chosen himself to perform the event. Carter has been working with the NFL since 2019 as a curator of the halftime show through his entertainment company, Roc Nation.
Despite fan speculation of prominent artists such as Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber performing the LXI halftime show, the NFL has now officially confirmed JAY-Z as the talent. In a statement released by the league, Carter said of the announcement, “Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world’s biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.”

“When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that JAŸ-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in the same statement.
Since taking over curator duties for one of the biggest events in music, Carter has selected powerhouse acts such as Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, and Kendrick Lamar throughout the years. Halftime performances are notorious for bringing out special guests, and fans can only wonder if the Valentine's Day show will feature a cameo from Carter's wife, Beyoncé.
Nonetheless, it may be hard to beat the accolades put forth by Bad Bunny's Super Bowl LX performance last year. The Puerto Rican superstar's show set a peak viewership record of 137.8 million and took home seven Emmys: Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Choreography For Variety Or Reality Programming, Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Variety Series Or Special, Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Special, Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork For A Special, Outstanding Directing For A Variety Special, and Outstanding Variety Special (Live).
