jasmine.4.t announces boygenius-produced debut album 'You Are the Morning'

Alan Pedder

Following July's "Skin on Skin", Manchester-based trans artist Jasmine Cruickshank, aka jasmine.4.t, will release her debut album You Are the Morning on 17 January via Phoebe Bridgers' Saddest Factory Records. The singer/songwriter is the first UK signee to the label.

Recorded over 12 days in Los Angeles with an all-trans band, You Are the Morning is produced by all three boygenius members – Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus – and features guests including the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles, Becca Mancari, E.R. Fightmaster, and Cruickshank's Saddest Factory labelmate Claud.

The announcement comes along with new single "Elephant", a song Cruickshank says she wrote "very early in my transition about my first t4t love," adding:

"It’s about when it hurts because you’re trying to be friends but you both want to be more. My life in Bristol fell apart when I came out and, having no safe place to live, I was staying on queers’ sofas in Manchester, traumatised and in no place to start a relationship. It was beyond healing recording this track in LA with Phoebe, Lucy and Julien, along with my Manchester dolls Eden and Phoenix and with extra layers from local trans musicians Vixen, Bobby, Addy and of course the incredible Trans Chorus of Los Angeles."

You Are The Morning is inspired by and dedicated to queer friendship and t4t love, with its title nodding to "a fresh start, new days which a beautiful and cosmic."
