Jacob Collier pays tribute to Brian Wilson with "Keep An Eye On Summer" cover

Today, the 7x Grammy-winning artist Jacob Collier shared "Keep An Eye On Summer", a new single that reimagines the 1964 Beach Boys song as a stripped back, meditative tune. The track pays tribute to Brian Wilson, who passed away June 11 this year.

For the accompanying music video, Collier collaborated with animator and illustrator Dávid Pogran. Watch/listen to his cover of "Keep An Eye On Summer" below:

"I have loved this song since the moment I first heard it as a youngster," said Collier via press release. He reflected on how the original Beach Boys tune "captures so beautifully that melancholic, earnest sophistication" of the band's early phase of their career. He continued:

"On Summer Solstice last year, in June of 2024, I spontaneously decided to record a rendition of the song, for fun; it took me around four hours or so. This is it, in its rough, unfettered form. In lieu of Brian's passing a few months ago, it felt right to share it with the world, as an homage to him, as this summer comes to a close."

The cover is composed of a duet between his five-string and ten-string guitars, as well as a complex harmonic structure — an homage to the multi-part harmonies signature to Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys' sound.
