J. Cole canceled his Sacramento concert following the death of a member of his touring crew in a fatal highway accident.

The rapper was scheduled to perform at Golden 1 Center on Thursday night (August 27), but the show was called off just hours before doors were expected to open after a truck transporting equipment from his previous concert was involved in a deadly crash.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the semi-truck driver was traveling south on Interstate 5 in Yolo County shortly after 6:05 a.m. when it drifted onto the right shoulder. The driver attempted to regain control and return to the highway, but the truck overturned.

The driver, identified by the Yolo County Coroner's Office as 66-year-old Jarlath Parkinson of Jackson, South Carolina, died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and authorities said there was no indication that drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident.

Parkinson had been hauling J. Cole's production equipment from the rapper's previous show in Seattle ahead of the Sacramento date.

"Following the tragic passing of a member of the touring crew in a trucking accident this morning, J. Cole's performance at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento tonight, August 27, has been canceled,” J. Cole and tour promoter Live Nation said in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with the crew member’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” they added.

J. Cole is currently in the midst of The Fall-Off Tour, a massive trek spanning 73 scheduled dates across North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. It remains unclear whether the Sacramento concert will be rescheduled.

Fans holding tickets for Thursday’s canceled show have been directed to contact Ticketmaster regarding refunds.
