Indie singer-songwriter Indigo De Souza says her "house is underwater" after Western North Carolina experienced devastating flooding from Hurricane Helene. The Category 4 storm has left destruction in its wake across the southeast, from Florida up through the Carolinas, but Western North Carolina, which includes Asheville, the hometown of artists like Indigo De Souza, Wednesday, and MJ Lenderman, has received seemingly the deepest blow with landslides and unprecedented flooding that leaves most of the city without power and water days after Helene has passed.
A recent Instagram story post from De Souza covers her house's inundation along with a call for assistance to anyone wanting to help. Stories of resource scarcity are rampant in the region after Helene left stores closed and water unpotable. The death toll currently stands at 30 with hundreds still marked as missing. Other artists living in Asheville like Wednesday and Moses Sumney have marked themselves as safe in the wake of the storm.
Anyone interested in helping can also donate to North Carolina's Disaster Relief Fund.
