The Danish alt rock group Iceage have returned today with their brand new single "Star". It follows the quintet's last project together, Seek Shelter, which came out in 2021 via Mexican Summer, marking their first new song in almost five years.
The band also shared the accompanying music video for "Star", directed by Thinh T. Petrus Nguyen. Watch/listen to the new single below:
"Star", written by front man Elias Rønnenfelt, is an animated, playful new track that compares love to a burning star. With a gritty and propulsive voice set to a jangling guitar melody, the song balances excitement with violence. Death and romance are entwined in the chorus' hook: "You've got me dying like a star / Centuries apart / Sunlike in the battered sky."
Since Seek Shelter, the band took a bit of a break from playing together. Rønnenfelt then went on to pursue an active solo career, releasing two studio records — his avant-folk debut Heavy Glory (2024) and last year's Speak Daggers – a collaborative album with Dean Blunt (lucre), and a handful of singles and remixed tracks.
As of right now, Iceage have one tour date scheduled: on August 14, they'll be performing at the Syd for Solen, a music festival based in their hometown of Copenhagen, DK. Rønnenfelt is currently on a solo tour, promoting Speak Daggers in cities across Europe, The UK, and North America.
The band have not confirmed a new record, but maybe this song leads to something bigger soon!
