Electronic band Hot Chip are coming back with their ninth album. A Long Way From Kansas is out January 8, via Domino. (And yes, that title is a reference to The Wizard of Oz.)

They've also shared the first taste, "Random Violence," which you can listen to below, along with a Jack Cole-directed video:

The band says "Random Violence" is a tribute to DJ Keith McIvor. As band member Joe Goddard says:

“Last year in September our old friend and brilliant DJ Keith McIvor of Optimo in Glasgow passed away after a diagnosis of an inoperable brain tumour a few months earlier. He largely inspired the words of the song. He was a passionate music lover and a staunch believer in socialism. Many of the words relate directly to his death and to memories of being in Sub Club in Glasgow where we met 20 years ago.”

The group will be heading out on a European tour through February and March. Additionally, they will be doing a DJ set (in honor of McIvor) on October 21 at Sub Club in Glasgow. Find all the details down below.
