History made as Ethel Cain becomes first openly trans woman to score US top ten album with 'The Preacher's Daughter' vinyl release

Ethel Cain fans had to wait a long time for her debut album Preacher's Daughter to be pressed on vinyl, and apparently they all rushed out to buy it at once. Or at least enough of them did to register almost 40,000 equivalent album units – sufficient numbers to land the Florida-born singer/songwriter at #10 on the Billboard 200.

This feat makes her the first openly trans woman to score a top ten hit album in the US, and it's one that she could swiftly follow, as her second album, Willoughby Tucker, I Will Always Love You, is due to land in August. Sharing a Billboard Instagram post celebrating her Billboard 200 success, Cain had just two words to say: "oh my :)"

The previously announced Willoughby Tucker Forever Tour kicks off in Seattle on 12 August and runs through to November, ending in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. Support comes from Toronto-based collective Nine, who Cain describes as "the greatest band to ever do it."

A recent Instagram post confirmed that $1 from every ticket sold would be donated to organizations committed to serving the trans community, in partnership with The Ally Coalition. Other artists who have partnered with TAC include Lucy Dacus and Remi Wolf.

Cain also hinted that there would be more Willoughby Tucker Forever dates to be announced in the near future. Current list below:
