Today, the Oslo hardcore trio Hammok announced their second LP, When Does This Place Become Our Scene. The new record — their first on the Sargent House label — will be out June 5. The band also shared the music video for their lead single, "The Scene".

On When Does This Place Become Our Scene, Hammok aim to explain the political and aesthetic lineage of the hardcore genre, seeing how spaces like the internet and social media affected the idea of community and a "scene." Vocalist and guitarist Tobias Osland adds, "A central idea was: What does it mean to be alone? Is it a strength? Do you feel a part of something? A community?"
Musically, the record puts the essence and instrumentation of hardcore in alignment with punk lyricism and pop production, trying to find something that both experiments with the form and brings people together. Enter "The Scene", the record's introductory track that features Osland's abrasive vocals, a raging band, and lyrics that pant and beg for connection in a live show.
"Everything was sort of a natural response to how good the tour was going, and all the people we had met up to that point," says Osland about the new single, which he wrote on the middle of Hammok's first big tour across Europe. "I wanted to capture and directly address the situation we were in — meeting people for the first time who give a shit about their community and the music around them."
