Half Waif announces new album 'See You At The Maypole', shares first single "Figurine"

Half Waif - the musical project of singer, songwriter, producer Nandi Rose - has announced a brand new album, See You At The Maypole. The LP will be released October 4 via ANTI- Records, and serves as the followup to Rose's 2021 record Mythopoetics. She has also shared the first single, "Figurine", along with a music video. Watch/listen below:

This song, along with much of the forthcoming record, was written in the wake of a miscarriage, and was inspired by the internal and external aftermath of such an event.

Of the new song, Rose says:

“Not everyone will go through a miscarriage, but this is a song about how to continue on after losing something precious, how to find the light on your face again ... I was literally carrying death inside me, and then my body was frozen. This wasn’t just my story, I wanted to say. It was every story of loss—the loss of a life, the loss of a dream, the loss of trust and hope and faith."

The song itself appears to be a lovely, if melancholy, ode to this loss, with lyrics like "I love you every morning when the sun / Is rising in the yard" coinciding with lyrics like "I felt it growing in me / And now everything is gone", representing the flood of conflicting emotions Rose and her loved ones must have been grappling with in this time.
