Following in the footsteps of the KISS-themed 1999 farce Detroit Rock City, or maybe Method Man and Redman's short-lived sitcom Meth & Red, Green Day have a movie on the horizon called Nimrods, a "coming-of-age road comedy" named after their third-most-popular album, whose plot loosely resembles that of A Goofy Movie. Why not?
All three Green Day members are co-producers on the film, about three friends who think their band scored a gig opening for their heroes on New Year's Eve in Los Angeles and hit the road. It hits theaters on August 14th.
The band themselves have just released the first taste of the soundtrack, a new original called "I'm Never Gonna R.I.P.," which has a whole rockabilly thing going for it and genuinely sounds like Elvis' "Jailhouse Rock."
The 30-song album is out July 31st via and also features tunes from the Paradox, Analog Dogs, Ultra Q, and McKenna Grace, one of the film's stars. You can pre-order the soundtrack here and listen to "I'm Never Gonna R.I.P." below.
