California pop punk legends Green Day have announced a gigantic reissue of their critically and commercially successful 2004 concept album, American Idiot.

Green Day's Instagram page has outlined all of the things included in this massive release. It includes a super deluxe vinyl / cd box set, unreleased demos, a documentary, and much, much more.

The Instagram post explains the themes of the album, and what the band had in mind when they made the album 20 years ago:

"In the summer of 2004, Green Day entered the studio with Rob Cavallo to create American Idiot, uncertain of what the future held. They were audacious, rebellious, and stressed out by the state of the country at the time. American Idiot was crafted as a response to the daily bombardment of media that spreads it far and wide, making us desensitized and weary -filled with themes that still ring true today, even 20 years later."

Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool released their ambitious, explosive, and political album to massive success on September 21st 2004. The album has some of Green Day's most successful and instantly recognizable tunes, like "Holiday", "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "Wake Me Up When September Ends", and (of course) the title track. The record would go on to sell 23 million copies worldwide and went platinum 6 times.

The band is also on tour right now, and they've been celebrating the anniversary of both American Idiot and their 1994 album Dookie by playing both albums in their entirety live. These two albums are among the most celebrated albums in Green Day's discography, so it makes sense as to why the band are taking these two albums across the globe live for all their fans to enjoy.

The 20th anniversary deluxe edition comes out on October 25th. You can pre-order the vinyl version here and the cd version here.
