Geordie Greep cancels tour over sexual misconduct allegation

Ian Ward

UK artist Geordie Greep has canceled the remaining dates of his tour in the wake of an allegation of sexual misconduct made during his Vancouver show on October 8. He was scheduled to finish the final North American leg of his two-year-long tour promoting The New Sound, heading to venues in Boise, ID, Salt Lake City, UT, Denver, CO, and others.

According to concert-goers online, an attendee — identified as a man by people who were at the show — passed out flyers accusing the musician of rape. The printed-out paper included phrases like, "You know what you did this morning Oct 8th," and "He thinks he can do whatever he wants because he's gone tomorrow."

Two hours after doors, Greep walked on stage without his band, addressing the sexual misconduct allegation. "This is a very serious matter that I must talk about,” he said, per statements collected by The Guardian. “Someone out front is handing out flyers saying I’m this, saying I’m that… and it needs to be talked about.”

Greep claimed that he and his band had gone to house party the night before where the artist tried making a pass at a woman and was promptly rejected. “I made a move and it didn’t come off,” he said, “and I really quickly of course apologized. It was a complete misunderstanding on my part. It felt extremely bad, and I feel extremely sorry and extremely upset about the whole situation.”

"I would never rape a woman," he claimed. "I’m not a rapist. It’s not how that went down."

Greep then added that proceeds from the show would be donated to a local charity specialized in violence against women, per The Guardian. The rest of the band never joined the 27 year-old artist on stage, and he proceeded to play a solo show with a setlist containing music from both black midi and The New Sound, per Setlist.fm.

As of this writing, Greep's European tour in November has not been canceled yet.

This is a developing story.
