In a shock to nobody, the official tourist board of Mexico released a statement that the recently announced Fyre Festival 2 "does not exist."
The second installment of the fraudulent festival was announced via an exclusive interview with TODAY, with tickets having gone on sale last week. Prices ranged from $1,400 to $1.1 million.
Apparently, tourist authorities were not alerted of the event's existence. In a statement to the guardian, Isla Mujeres director of tourism Edgar Gasca said:
"We have no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or company about it. For us, this is an event that does not exist. The organizers didn’t even bother to approach the authorities. It’s very strange, because any manager knows that if you’re going to hold an event, let alone a massive event, you need municipal authorization."
He added, “I think they thought they would just announce it and see if it got traction, then ask for the permits halfway down the path. It’s a bit of a naive way to think.”

Impression Isla Mujeres, one of the luxury hotels at which Fyre promised accommodation, claimed it hadn't received “any approach or enquiry with regards to the event.”
Founder Billy McFarland was released from prison in 2022 after being indicted on fraud charges related to the initial festival. Perhaps he's willing to run it back.
