Fog Lake, the project of Montreal-based, Newfoundland-raised musician Aaron Powell, has announced a new album, Hollowbody, out November 13. It’s his seventh album as Fog Lake, written over three weeks in his native Newfoundland.
Alongside the announcement, Powell shared the album's lead single and video, "Bogus." Watch here:
Powell credited part of the album’s sound to a 40-year-old amp simulator, originally sold only in Japan, that he bought secondhand online; he said the gear’s built-in “analog” recording setting shaped the feel of the songs as he wrote them, letting him focus more on the songwriting rather than the actual fidelity of the recordings.
Hollowbody was co-produced, mixed, and mastered by longtime collaborator Warren Hildebrand of Foxes in Fiction. Powell also remarked, “I’m really thankful I had Warren of Foxes in Fiction on board,” adding that Hildebrand had greatly helped in defining a sound for the record that stayed clean while keeping the sensibility of his earlier releases.
