Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert was arrested earlier this year and charged with attempted second-degree murder when he struck 79-year-old William Yates (father of Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates) with his vehicle. In court today, a Montgomery County judge ordered Ebert to undergo a competency evaluation.

The judge overseeing Ebert's case ordered the evaluation based on "significant concerns regarding competency,” as stated by the guitarist's attorney, Mark Sobel, according to The Baltimore Banner.

Ebert and Sobel do not seem to be on the same page when it comes to court proceedings, as the defendant claimed, “I’m going to fire him,” when referencing his attorney. Additionally, Ebert claimed, "I did not commit a crime," and plans to press charges against police officers, prosecutors, and defense attorneys involved in the case.

The judge-ordered evaluation comes after Ebert committed attempted second-degree murder of William Yates. According to a press release by Montgomery County, Ebert struck W. Yates with his 2001 Buick in April, inflicting injuries including a broken leg, before fleeing the scene of the crime. At the time of the attempted murder, it appears that the two parties were in close vinicity of each other due to being neighbors.

Turnstile took to Rolling Stone to release a statement shortly after the crime, in which they denounced Ebert:

"In the years since, his [Ebert's] baseless tirades have continued in public, we never addressed it. We chose to protect his privacy and the circumstances around his departure, even when he did nothing to be deserving of that protection. Over the past few months, his threats only escalated further. We have no language left for Brady."

A follow-up status hearing for Ebert has been scheduled for September 22nd.
