Today, the British rockers Dry Cleaning shared "Joy", the final single from their forthcoming album, Secret Love. Searching for optimism in spite of current affairs, their fourth single arrives just days before the record's release this Friday, January 9 via 4AD.
The accompanying music video for "Joy" once again features band member Tom Dowse dancing on a balcony, with a split-screen focusing on his torso and feet. The performance was choreographed by BULLYACHE, who also helped with the previous videos for "Hit My Head All Day", "Cruise Ship Designer", and "Let Me Grow and You'll See The Fruit".

Speaking out on the peculiar visualizers, Dowse explained that Dry Cleaning wanted to emulate the fan experience with their music. "We’ve seen the vastly different ways people behave at our shows," he said via press release, "...lone figures inhabiting the sound in their own private universe. With that in mind, we asked BULLYACHE to design a set of moves to each song on Secret Love as a starting point for ourselves and others to mimic or interpret them in a fun and idiosyncratic way, regardless of technical ability."
Lyricist and vocalist Florence Shaw added that "Joy", the final track off Secret Love, aims to be a positive farewell to its listeners. Originally taken from different advertisements found in Virginia Tech University’s History of Food and Drink archive, the simple, sweet messages were meant to encourage "softness and compassion" in an increasingly difficult time.
"Recently I've felt pessimistic about the world," she commented. The lyrics' manifestations — "Don't give up on being sweet," or "We'll build a cute harmless world," for instance — were described by Shaw as "[having] a naive quality."
The band have also re-scheduled the North American leg of their 2026 tour. Originally meant for the winter, Dry Cleaning had to postpone their travels to late spring due to "increasingly hostile economic forces," according to a social media post. Most original locations on their tour have been preserved, but the US and Canada leg has been slightly shortened. Tickets for the new dates are available now.
Their UK tour begins this Friday in Brighton's Chalk.
