Shoegaze-turned-power-pop unit DIIV have released "Kid," the second single off of their upcoming album ZIRP! The new album is due out October 30 via Fantasy Records. Listen to "Kid" below.

The music video for the new track, directed by Jaxon Whittington, was filmed by DIIV frontman Zachary Cole Smith’s son Roy and his friend Julian. Listen:

ZIRP! finds the New York natives stepping out of their typical shoegaze theatrics and swapping it for an A.G. Cook-produced sound. Cook, founder of notable record label PC Music, has worked with known pop artists such as Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek. The band describes their fifth full-length as:

"This is not a niche record for music understanders only. This is our POP record. This is our extremely accessible mainstream alternative rock record."

Following 2024's acclaimed Frog in Boiling Water, ZIRP! was first announced last month via postcards that were mailed to fans. The new LP, which is an acronym for "zero interest rate policy," is the band commenting on a predatory, capitalistic society. In an interview with The Guardian, Smith says:

"For Spotify, [music] is just fodder in their ecosystem. They’re selling tech. Apple is a company that’s selling phones. And music is this resource that they can pillage and plunder."
