Denzel Curry recently unveiled his latest project, King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2, along with the release of the new single "BLACK FLAG FREESTYLE," featuring rising Texas artist That Mexican OT.
The track gets its name from the spontaneous late-night recording session in an Australian studio, where Denzel wrapped a black bandana around the microphone. The Houston-inspired instrumental, produced by 187 Ricky & Payday, complements That Mexican OT's Bay City roots seamlessly.
Before the official release, Denzel Curry and OT performed the song live from Houston at the renowned Screwed Up Records & Tapes store founded by DJ Screw. The debut took place on the UK's Radio 1 New Music Show as Jack Saunders' Hottest Record, along with an interview with Denzel in the studio.
King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2 marks Denzel Curry's return to the sound that kickstarted his career. Unlike the first volume performed under his Raven Miyagi moniker, Volume 2 showcases Curry's Big Ultra persona, a more confident and success-driven evolution.
Teasing the project during a stop at The Lot Radio in New York City on his Mischievous Radio show with DJ Dylan Ali, Curry shared insights on the album's features on Instagram and re-released the original King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 1 on SoundCloud in preparation for the upcoming launch. You can find that here.
Curry's journey to create King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2 has been a long-standing aspiration, with earlier attempts transforming into distinct projects like Imperial and 13LOOD 1N + 13LOOD OUT. The project, paying homage to Southern musical legacies, features a lineup reflecting the region's musical diversity. From former Raider Klan member Key Nyata to legends like Juicy J and Project Pat, as well as rising talents like Maxo Kream and That Mexican OT, the project incorporates a blend of Southern influences. Set against the backdrop of Denzel Curry's concept-driven albums, King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2 is a testament to his technical prowess and creativity.
Additionally, Curry released the track "HOT ONE," produced by FNZ and SkipOnDaBeat, featuring TiaCorine and A$AP Ferg, during his "Mischievous Cypher" with On The Radar. That track is available over here.
