deathcrash announce new album 'Somersaults', share title track

The UK slowcore band deathcrash will release their new record, Somersaults, on February 27 via untitled(recs). Earlier this week, the four-piece shared the titular track, hinting at the album's attempt to blend the moody darkness of the genre with a running theme of optimism.

Listen to "Somersaults" below:

The title track sets a nostalgic ballad over a rocking, meditative guitar melody. With vocals just out of sync and building on each other, the song about letting go of some dreams and growing up carries a slightly mysterious quality.

"Matt [Weinberger, guitar] presented to us this beautiful nostalgic song, more or less fully formed, and he’d called it ‘Somersaults’ before the vocals were ever written for it," says bassist Patrick Fitzgerald. "It became a symbol for the record more or less instantly."

Somersaults is more or less a coming of age album, finding the balance between the bleakness of adulthood and the joy of independence.

"Triumph", which came out last November, is also on the new record.

The South London band debuted in 2022 with Return, following it up six months later with 2023's Less. They've also shared a remixed version of their sophomore album, which featured collaborations with other indie breakouts Water From Your Eyes and Mandy, Indiana.

deathcrash have a handful of upcoming tour dates. In late February, they'll be heading to New York City's Nightclub 101 — their only US date so far. In April, they'll be performing in a couple grassroots venues around the UK. Tickets are available now.
