David Byrne has confirmed a forthcoming concert film made in collaboration with Brady Corbet, the writer and director behind 2024’s The Brutalist. 

It continues a career-long pattern of Byrne working with notable filmmakers. In 1984, he teamed up with Jonathan Demme on the Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense, and in 2020 Spike Lee captured Byrne’s American Utopia during its run on Broadway. 

Corbet is currently in post production on the new film, which documents Byrne’s recent Who Is the Sky? tour. He captured the performances using large-format cinematography across multiple nights at the Hippodrome in Baltimore. 

Byrne said he didn’t grasp the impact of shooting on 70 millimeter until Corbet sent him frames from the shoot, adding that the format “really does capture the widescreen visual scope of the show.: Corbet, in turn, called the performance an inclusive celebration of community and of Baltimore in particular, saying he was grateful for the chance to capture Byrne’s hometown show on 8-perf and 15-perf 70mm.
