Cold Specks announces first album in over seven years, shares new song "Lingering Ghosts"

Canadian singer, songwriter, and producer Cold Specks (aka Al Spx) is back with a brand new record. Light for the Midnight, Spx's fourth album (and first since 2017's Fool's Paradise), is out April 11 via Mute.

With this news comes new single "Lingering Ghosts", which you can listen to below:

This song follows two singles from last year – "How it Feels" and "Wandering in the Wild" – which will also appear on the new LP.

Known for her powerful and unique voice, Spx continues her blend of art rock and experimental blues on Light. Co-producing alongside Adrian Utley of Portishead (who also plays guitar on the record) and Ali Chant (who has worked with Perfume Genius and plays bass on the record), the album follows several years of personal hardship and mental health struggles, which Spx has been very upfront about over the years.

"I definitely wanted to reflect on the last couple of years because it impacted me so much," Spx says about the album. "But I also wanted the audience to walk away with this album. You know, the songs belong to them once I release them.”

In addition to other contributions from the likes of Chantal Kreviazuk (Drake, Kendrick Lamar), Malcolm Middleton of Arab Strap, Ben Christophers, Terry Edwards, Ed Harcourt, and Jonathan Quarmby, Light for the Midnight also features string arrangements by Owen Pallett.

And despite the difficult themes and subject matter, Spx sees the album as being about, ultimately, hope and transformation.
