Charli XCX begins rollout for 'BRAT' follow-up: "I think the dance floor is dead, so now we’re making rock music"

Charli XCX has had a busy year already, but she doesn't plan to slow down any time soon. Her brief film pivot with BRAT mockumentary The Moment and soundtracking Emerald Fennell's "Wuthering Heights" is only two months in the rearview, but now it seems she's gearing up for a new album.

To follow up a career-defining album is a Herculean task, and Charli seems to be tackling it by doing a sonic 180. She's running through the classic "I'm a pop star teasing a new album" playbook as we speak. She wiped her Instagram, posting a singular black and white image of her wearing headphones with the caption "i love making things."

Her once-private second account changed its handle from 360_brat to b.sides, to which she shared a photo gallery detailing recording sessions in Paris with longtime collaborator A.G. Cook.

Today, Charli graces the cover of British Vogue, revealing details on the BRAT follow-up to journalist Laura Snapes: “If I’d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad.”

This cover story is the introduction to Charli's rock pivot, but it seems more concrete information will surface as this rollout continues.
