Carrie Underwood, Village People, and more to perform at next week's Presidential Inauguration ceremony

Yesterday, the committee leading the organization of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration next week confirmed the list of artists set to perform over the course of the day.

Eight-time Grammy Award-winning country artist Carrie Underwood will sing "America The Beautiful" right before President Trump is sworn into office. “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood said in a statement to PEOPLE yesterday. She described her upcoming performance at the inauguration as a "time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

Underwood previously tried to keep politics out of her music career, telling The Guardian in 2019, "I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins...Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that.” In 2017, however, Underwood performed a parody of her own song "Before He Cheats" with fellow country star Jason Aldean titled "Before He Tweets" at the Country Music Awards, where the two lightly poke fun at the president's impulsive behavior.

Aldean—as well as Rascal Flatts, Kid Rock, and Billy Ray Cyrus—will also perform at the Inaugural Balls, according to American Songwriter.

1970s disco group Village People are also one of the big headliners for next week. They will sing at two inaugural events: one of President-elect Trump's inaugural balls, as well as a rally he's hosting in Washington D.C. on January 19. The band's hit song "Y.M.C.A." became a staple tune during the Republican nominee's election campaign. While previously known as a "gay anthem," (an amusing detail in a staunchly anti-LGBTQ+ campaign), Village People spoke out on December 3, 2024 in favor of Trump's usage of the song at political events. Frontman Victor Willis wrote in a Facebook post that Trump "seems to genuinely like 'Y.M.C.A.' and he's having a lot of fun with it," and that beginning Janaury 2025, he will seek legal action against any media outlet that dubs his band's song a gay anthem.

Willis announced on his Facebook yesterday that Village People will sing at the inauguration, writing, "We know this wont make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics." He continued:

"Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost. Therefore, we believe it's now time to bring the country together with music which is why VILLAGE PEOPLE will be performing at various events as part of the 2025 Inauguration of Donald J. Trump."

Country singer Lee Greenwood is scheduled to sing as the President-elect walks over to take his oath. Opera singer Christopher Macchio was reportedly hand-picked by Trump to sing the National Anthem at the end of the program, according to TIME. Macchio, a known Trump supporter, previously sang at last year's Republican National Convention, as well as the President-elect's "return" rally in Butler, PA, and at the Madison Square Garden rally on October 27, 2024.

At the same time of the inauguration next week, several artists will gather in New York City's St. Mark's Cathedral to host an "Anti-Inaugural Event," a free (with RSVP) program that will feature musical acts, dance numbers, and a reading of Alice Nottley's epic poem, "The Descent of Alette," according to BrooklynVegan. Among many local bands and artists, Yo La Tengo is scheduled to play.
