Alabama native Caroline Sallee – better known in the music world as Caroline Says – has announced the release of her third album, The Lucky One, accompanied by an animated video for sweetly melancholic lead single “Faded and Golden”. Watch and listen below.

Due 11 October via Western Vinyl, the album is Sallee’s first since 2018’s No Fool Like An Old Fool, and her first new music since the following year’s Ohio River EP. During that period, she left her longtime home of Austin, TX, and moved to Brooklyn, with a short stint back in Alabama in between.

The Lucky One is an album built on memories and the ghosts of Sallee’s past. Speaking about “Faded and Golden” in the accompanying press release, she says:

“Relationships are, first and foremost, ideas. That’s what allows relationships to persist even when we’re apart. We may yearn for an old friend or lover, especially one from our teenage years and our hometown. But there is a bittersweetness to any reunion. They may shatter the memory we’ve made of them.”

Other songs on the album explore “themes of childhood, youthful innocence, the complexities of grief, and the sting of unmet expectations.”

The Lucky One tracklist:

1. The Lucky One
2. Faded and Golden
3. Actors
4. Eyes in the Night
5. Palm Reader
6. Dust
7. Always Looking Back
8. Roses
9. Daze
10. Lightning
11. Like We Do
12. Something Good
