Today, the indie rock band Car Seat Headrest released "CCF (I'm Gonna Stay With You)", the second single off their upcoming record The Scholars. The single — just over eight minutes in length — is the first track on the new album.
The music video for "CCF (I'm Gonna Stay With You)" features original characters drawn by front man Will Toledo's friend and longtime collaborator, Cate Wurtz. The animal characters serve as the protagonists of the The Scholars rock opera: a mystery about faith, self-discovery, and wisdom that unfolds at the fictional Parnassus University. "CCF (I'm Gonna Stay With You)" follows the previous single "Gethsemane," a 13-minute song focusing on Rosa, a medical student at the university with necromantic powers who begins to learn about the dark underbelly of her college. The new track introduces a new character, Beolco.
“Beolco is a student of Parnassus University, a college founded in ages past by a famed playwright known as the Scop," Car Seat Headrest explained in a press release. "Beolco is deeply fond of both the college and the Scop, believing himself to be spiritually connected or reincarnated from the playwright. He yearns for confirmation of this secret belief.”
The Scholars is due for release on May 2 via Matador Records. It will be the band's return in five years, following the release of their 2020 album, Making A Door Less Open. The rock opera was partly inspired by Toledo's battle with longterm illness from contracting COVID-19 during the pandemic, as well as his foray into spiritualism and religious studies.
