Cameron Picton, former guitarist and bassist of British indie rock band black midi, has officially debuted his new band, My New Band Believe. Taking the lead as frontman, vocalist, and guitarist, Picton will be joined by frequent collaborator Seth Evans on piano, King David Ike-Elechi on drums, and Josh Finerty on bass guitar.
Picton also released the band's first single "Lecture 25".
"Last week I (Cameron) decided to start a new band and record a track I’d written a couple weeks before," he posted to the band's official Instagram page. "Thanks so so so much to everyone who made this slightly-crazy-but-also-really-fun idea work and for putting in total commitment. It was recorded in a day and mixed the next, the video was made concurrently." He then shared a video to accompany his debut single, directed by Jack Shep.

After going on hiatus since the 2022 release of Hellfire, Picton's former project black midi officially broke up — or rather, was "indefinitely over," as other former member Geordie Greep said in an Instagram livestream — in August 2024. Each individual member (Picton, Greep, and drummer Morgan Simpson) went on to focus on their individual careers.
Cameron Picton began performing under his solo project name Camera Picture before his Mercury Prize-nominated band broke up. He notably went on the US leg of Black Country New Road's spring 2024 tour, supporting them alongside Chicago-based trio Horsegirl. He played a small set under the name Camera Picture, focusing mainly on experimenting with classical guitar. There, he debuted and sold copies of his first mixtape, 45m50s, which can only be listened to via physical copies.
Picton's solo music can currently be found exclusively on his Bandcamp page. Primarily mixtapes pressed onto CDs, the records 45m50s and 36m33s offer a guitar-forward, ambient-meets-indie rock instrumental contrast to his more post-punk, maximalist writing style. Picton announced today in his Instagram post that a new mixtape is in production (24m56s), and it will feature a demo for "Lecture 25." It will be out on February 25, sold via physical copies.
The British guitarist and singer-songwriter will also embark on a brief solo tour throughout the US, performing as Lankum's featured artist at San Francisco's Noise Pop Festival on February 27, as well as three dates across Chicago, IL, Los Angeles, CA, and Brooklyn, NY.
