Bruce Springsteen shares EP with anti-Trump speeches

After kicking off the Land of Hope and Dreams tour last Wednesday in Manchester, UK, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band shared a digital EP commemorating the highlights of their first concert together in six years. Including live performances of "Land of Hope and Dreams," "Long Walk Home," and "City of Ruins," Springsteen released two speeches criticizing US President Donald Trump delivered at the event.

"The mighty E Street Band is here tonight to call upon the righteous power of art, of music, of rock and roll in dangerous times!" Springsteen proclaimed to a raucous crowd before playing "Land of Hope and Dreams." He continued,

"In my home, the America I love, the America I've written about that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, treasonous administration. Tonight, we ask all those who believe in democracy and the best of our American experience to rise with us, raise your voices against the authoriarianism, and let freedom ring!"

The introductory speech to "My City of Ruins" is equally critical of the Trump administration. "In America," Springsteen says, "they are persecuting people for using their right to free speech and voicing their dissent." He then begins a litany of "sadistic" actions the government has done these past five months in office. In a 3.5-minute speech, the rock star addressed income inequality, the flaws in our healthcare system, the rolling back of civil rights legislation, defunding universities and arresting students for disagreeing with their politics, the mass deportations, and "siding with dictators against those struggling for their freedom."

"A majority of our elected representatives have failed to protect the American people from the abuses of an unfit president and a rouge government," Springsteen stated before shifting into a tone of hope. Believing in the greatness of the American people he has written about for decades, Springsteen concluded, "We'll survive this moment!"

President Donald Trump was quick to respond to Springsteen's speeches last week. On May 16, the President called the Born In the USA singer "dumb as a rock" and "just a pushy obnoxious JERK." (Other insults made against Bruce Springsteen include "dried out 'prune' of a rocker," "Highly Overrated," and "not a talented guy.") He then made vague threats about the artist's return to the US once the tour concludes.

Trump has also launched an "investigation" into payments artists received after performing at Democratic Party political rallies, Spin reports.

Other artists have since spoken out in support of the New Jersey rock star, according to Newsweek. Yesterday, Neil Young posted a new blog entry titled "TRUMP!!!" and said, "Bruce and thousands of musicians think you are ruining America." He then wrote, "You are more worried about yourself than AMERICA. Wake up Trump!! Remember what the White House is?"
