Broadcast was an English band formed in Birmingham back in 1995 which featured Trish Keenan and James Cargill. Broadcast was famous for pioneering a lot of what would become commonplace in today's music, blending psychedelia with electronic music, using otherworldly samples, and creating sonically dense atmospheres across their discography. And now, Warp Records have announced a new release from the group, Distant Call - Collected Demos 2000-2006.
Distant Call is a selection of demos from songs that eventually made their way onto the albums Haha Sound, Tender Buttons, and The Future Crayon.
Two of the songs featured in this release were discovered by Cargill after Keenan quite sadly passed away in 2011 from complications related to pneumonia. "Please Call to Book" was a track written by Keenan in response to the band's "Let's Write a Song" project in 2006. Fans would write in some of their own lyrics and Broadcast would flesh them out into fully finished songs. "Come Back To Me" is the second track, and you can listen to it below.
This will be the final release from Broadcast, and is set to be released on Keenan's birthday, September 28th. These demos are meant to serve as a closing statement from the group.
Back in May of this year, Warp Records had released Spell Blanket - Collected Demos 2006-2009. These demos made up what would have been the band's fifth studio album. This collection gave fans a look into the mind Trish Keenan and James Cargill and their creative processes later on in their career. You can listen to Spell Blanket: Collected Demos 2006-2009 in its entirety on YouTube.
You can pre-order Distant Call - Collected Demos 2000-2006 on vinyl, CD, or digital download here. It will be released on, September 28th, via Warp Records.
